Gain Fitness

Saturday, February 25, 2012

A blog I have come across very recently is Back on Pointe.  There are heaps of workouts that can be done at home and don't require any sort of equipment.  There is even a set of workouts for those times you are waiting for your toast to cook or coffee to brew.  It's called Morning Workouts........

Here a couple of other workouts you can find on Back on Pointe :

Another gem I came across was a web site called GAIN fitness.  I haven't had a chance to really look around yet, but I did find a little tool where you can build your own workouts.  I don't think your have to register, but if you want to it's free.  It also comes with an iPhone application.

You choose :
  • Time - how many mins you want to workout for
  • Location - gym or home
  • Goal - health & longevity, fat loss or muscles
  • Workout type - full body, upper body, legs & core, full body push, full body pull or core
  • Tuning Options - level, intensity, body focus - shoulders, calves etc.  + more
I haven't done it yet, but I am looking forward to customising my own workouts.  I am going to get some together for March and work them into my 4 week calorie challenge.  I know I'm doing the 1 million kilo challenge and I will continue to do that, but there is no harm in adding a little extra exercise.  I think I have found the tool to get my exercise focus back on track.  Wish me luck :)

Virtual Workday

Wednesday, April 13, 2011

As I was vacuuming up copious amounts of popcorn that I didn't even get to enjoy, I was thinking about a blog called A Packable Feast and how cute the containers are that LikeyLou uses each day at work. Please don't ask me why I was thinking about this while I was cleaning up, I have no idea why it popped into my head, but I am glad it did.

Anyway, I thought that being able to actually leave the home and go to work would keep temptation at bay easier than being at home and having access to food constantly all day long so I got to thinking that :- Why don't I pretend that I am at work??? I know it sounds silly, but it may just work.

If I am "going" to work, I will have to get up at 5.45 am to workout. Get kids ready for their day, get myself ready for my day which would include having a nice healthy breakfast after my workout. Next I would have to pack myself food for the day. I will pack myself my lunch plus a morning and afternoon snack. Now because I am "going" to work and being so organised I will already know what is for dinner so I will have my calories planned out perfectly for the day.

I will have to put my lunch and snacks in the "work" fridge and only eat at the allocated times. Say, 10 am morning tea, 1 pm lunch, 4 pm afternoon tea, then dinner whenever I "get" home and get it ready.

Now, I know this sounds completely stupid, but maybe if I have some more structure in my food day it will be easier for me to continue on my journey and get rid of this ridiculous plateau I have been on for 100 years, OK, slight exaggeration, I'm not that old!! Besides, it's more of a shoving of food in my face issue rather than a real plateau, I have just been maintaining for ages and I want to see the scales go down again.

I looked at my weight tracker (iPhone App) this morning and logged in my latest weight stats and it said that "at this rate you will achieve your goal on 21 /06 /2022 - say what? 2022, last time I checked the outcome it said 2013 and I was disgusted with that. I want it to say 1 / 12 / 2012 - that's actually this year, not in 10 years time!!

I am off to plan my virtual workday meals and dinner for tomorrow.

iPhone Applications

I have found a few good iPhone applications on weight loss. One is called Target Weight and as you update your weight it displays how many kilos left to go. There is also a visual graph of your losses (and any gains you may have) . Now I knew my weight loss has been slow, but I didn't realise it was THIS slow! I went in to have a look at my graph and it told me what my average weight loss per week was plus some other information and then the last bit says - at this rate, you can reach your Target Weight on 13 / 2 / 2013. WHAT??? 2013 - two thousand and thirteen.

I couldn't believe it. I want to be at goal by December 1 2011, not February 2013 so in light of this "announcement" I will definitely need to get a move on and start losing faster than what I have been doing. This just proves to me that I haven't been following the WW program properly because if I was, surely it wouldn't take me that long to get to goal.

Anyway, this bit of information has really forced me to see exactly how slack I have been . I know it's not the exercise that is letting me down, it is obviously the food so I will really have to crack down on that and track, track, track my way to goal. Only I can do this for me, no one else is going to so now I need to take responsibility for my slackness and get moving towards a better, healthier and happier me.
