I can Run 5K, I'm Not Over the Hill (yet)

Monday, August 8, 2011

I have signed up for The 'Not' Over the Hill Virtual 5k which is being hosted by Carrie (to celebrate her 40th birthday) over at Family Fitness Food.  The run has to be completed sometime between the 7th & 13th of August  and there has to be 1 hill which means I have to run the 5ks including a hill this week.  The hill that appeared in my MDC 4k run threw me for a 6, I just wasn't prepared for it, but this time I will be.  Can I do it?  Of course I can!  Can I do it fast?  Of course not!  But that's ok because I don't need to do it fast, I just need to do it.

Carrie has even e-mailed out race bibs :)

I think I will be running my 5kms on Wednesday as that will give me a couple of days to prepare my head and also because I don't want to leave it till the last minute, just in case it doesn't go well and I have to give it another try.  I know that 5kms isn't a huge run, but for me it can be a real struggle.  I've done it once before so there is no reason why I can't do it again, I just have to convince myself of that.

I'm actually looking forward to the run because I've been so focused on my intervals lately that I haven't done much running.  The main reason I have been focused on the intervals though is because I just love them!  Speaking of intervals.......

*Workout*

This morning's workout was all about the hills, well 1 big hill to be exact, yes it was an interval workout.  Workout #3 followed by Week 1, Day 3 of the 200 squats program.

The squats looked like this :
  • Set 1 : 15
  • Set 2 : 20
  • Set 3 : 13
  • Set 4 : 13
  • Set 5 : 20 (minimum of 18)

*HRM Stats*
  • Duration : 41.35 mins
  • Calories : 422
  • Average HR : 158
  • Maximum HR : 208
  • In Zone : 17.40 mins
  • Distance : 2.7 kms

Feeling good today, the workout is out of the way, I have dinner ready, the kids are being good for now so I am off to read a little bit before the lunch run.
